Principal's Page

Dear Dennison Community,

Dennison continues to be a wonderful place of learning and student growth.  Staff continues to commit their energy and professional learning to ensure we stay focused on our mission.

February has roared in with weather challenges, and I thank everyone for their patience and flexibility as we navigate inside days and safety concerns.  The unexpected day off was due to the extreme cold temperatures and ensuring student safety.  I hope you were able to enjoy some time with your children.

With student safety as a focus I would like to remind everyone about drop-off/pick-up and parking/drive through policies and procedures:

Arrival and Departure: The playground is supervised from 8:30 a.m. to the start of school and from 3:20 p.m. until 3:30 p.m.

Once students arrive, they are to remain on the kindergarten playground waiting to be let in by the kindergarten teachers, or on the south playground & field until the bell rings unless directed otherwise by an adult supervisor. Students should not enter the building through the school lobby in the morning unless they are attending a before-school activity.

Students must be picked up in the afternoon by 3:30 p.m.

Kindergarten students may enter their classrooms from the outside 10 minutes prior to the beginning of the school day for a “soft start.”

If you are unable to pick up your student at the appropriate time, please arrange for someone else to do so or make arrangements with the after-school YMCA daycare program. After 3:30, students who have not been picked up must report to the school lobby to await parents or guardians. In the event a student is not picked up by 4:00 p.m., the YMCA will be available on an emergency basis for a fee.

Inclement Weather: The Jeffco School District Communication Office will notify all major radio and television stations of school closures in addition to contacting families via School Messenger.  Please do not call the school office.  A windsock attached to the flagpole in front of the building and on a pole in the back of the building will indicate an "Inside Day".  Students should come inside the main building immediately upon arrival.  Kindergarten students will go to their classrooms.  Grades 1 - 3 will sit in the cafeteria, and grades 4 - 6 will sit in the gym.

Parking Lot:
1. The streets, both west and south, between the stadium and Dennison are for bus and daycare van drop-off and pick-up ONLY.
 2. All students and adults must use the pedestrian crosswalk in the main parking lot to access cars in the main parking lot,  the overflow parking area, and behind the school between Dennison and the Jeffco Stadium.
 3. When dropping off students before school in the drop off lane, do not allow children to walk between cars to access the sidewalk.
4. Please observe all signs in the parking lot.
5. Do not leave cars unattended in the drop off lane at the front of the building or the kiss-n-go area.
 6. Please drive slowly through the parking lot area.
7. Do not use cell phones while in the parking lot. 8. Please do not park or drop off students in the overflow parking area in the morning.  We are only allowed to use the overflow lot in the morning on special occasions.  You may park or pick up students in the overflow lot at the end of the school day.  Please refer to the Eagle Express newsletter or website for dates when we cannot park there in the afternoon.

I appreciate your attention to all of this information and wish you a relaxing, enjoyable weekend.
